CURRICULUM

History

History Curriculum Ambition: National

Our curriculum provides high-quality history education which helps pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. It inspires pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. History helps pupils to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

History Curriculum Ambition:

Teaching of History at Roselands equips pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement.

In EYFS, the pupils develop an understanding of the world around them. Planning personal experiences increases their knowledge and sense of the world around them – from visiting parks, libraries and museums to meeting important members of society such as police officers, nurses and firefighters. They will listen to a broad selection of stories, non-fiction, rhymes and poems that foster their understanding of our culturally, socially, technologically and ecologically diverse world.

At Key Stage 1 the curriculum enables pupils to develop an awareness of the past, using common words and phrases relating to the passing of time. They learn where the people and events they study fit within a chronological framework and identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods.

Our Vision: Be The Best We Can Be

We want our pupils to be confident, independent, high achieving learners who are prepared for the next stage of their education and can fully participate as global citizens.

We will achieve this by a commitment to providing an inclusive, safe and inspirational teaching and learning environment that promotes high expectations of all pupils.

We support one another to overcome challenges with confidence and resilience, showing respect for ourselves and each other. We celebrate hard work and effort and our successes are shared because we know that together we can achieve more.
